121digital is a program which encourages and supports undergraduates to share their digital skills with an adult who lives and/or works in the local community. Support for you, the volunteer (Tutor) includes : training (written materials/face-to-face training and hands-on), access to tutor guides, a roving resource and supervision. Volunteer Tutors work to-gether on campus as a team - supporting each other and each Tutor is assigned their own Learner which has been proven to deliver the best results for Tutors and for Learners.
Your efforts will make an important difference in a very practical way (potentially life changing) for your Learner.

Is training provided?: Yes

Tasks that the volunteer(s) will be expected to undertake:

Deliver tuition based on the guidelines provided by the 121digital documentation to teach the Learner the basics of accessing and using the internet.

Teach your Learner at their pace to enable maximum learning - this is possible because all 121digital lessons require ONE Tutor to teach ONE Learner (1-2-1).

Skills required for this role:

Skills :Typical 3rd level student ability in IT. Ability to explain at the Learner's pace. Patience. 

Commitment : Tutors are asked to commit to 5 lessons of 2 hours duration each per course.

Plus Tutor training of one hour (immediately preceding the first lesson on your first course).

Total commitment = 11 hours per course - subsequent course(s) require 10 hours commitment (no Tutor training)

Details of time commitment needed for role:
The five lessons are normally held from approx 6.00 pm to 8.00 pm /on the same weekday evening for five consecutive weeks.

Minimum time commitment per week:
2 hour p/week

Additional screening required for this role:
open to ANY student of ANY faculty of your university/college and to postgraduates.
