Description

Joining the UL Student Sustainability Team allows you to make a meaningful impact on your campus. You do not need any prior sustainability knowledge! We work as a team to learn and create a positive impact. We welcome all students of various backgrounds and years of study to join. 

As a member, you can: 

  • Create engaging social media content 
  • Collaborate with other students and staff on various projects and events 
  • Practice facilitating workshops and public speaking 

Our team is entirely volunteer-based. By working with us, you can earn well-deserved President Volunteer Award (PVA) hours. 

Overall, you will: 

  • Develop a deeper understanding of sustainability 
  • Explore and address current sustainability issues 
  • Gain experience working with students from other disciplines 
  • Receive PVA hours 
  • Enhance your CV

Tasks that the volunteer(s) will be expected to undertake:

Team Meetings and Time Commitment:

  • Meeting Schedule: Our team meets for 1.5 hours, twice a month, either virtually or in person. 
  • Project Work: Hours spent on projects outside of meetings are flexible and depend on your time management. 
  • Coordinator Meetings: Meetings with the Student Sustainability Coordinator are scheduled as needed. 
  • Volunteer Hours: Volunteers can expect to contribute a minimum of approximately 15 hours per semester and up to as many as they would like. 

Skills required for this role:

As members of the UL Student Sustainability team, volunteers undertake various responsibilities to drive forward our mission.  

We all participate in various roles such as: 

  • Co-creation: Engaging in collaborative brainstorming sessions to generate innovative ideas for workshops, events, and projects. 

  • Implementation: Taking a hands-on approach to bring ideas to life by organising and executing sustainability-focused activities and initiatives.  

Volunteers can choose to focus on a specific role such as: 

  • Social Media Coordinator: Helps with all aspects of CSFI social media and promoting other UL events connected to sustainability. Creates content to engage with UL community, posts on a weekly basis, comes to the events to record and take photos to produce content. Makes flyers/posters. 

  • Workshop Facilitator: Leads informative and interactive workshops on ranging topics within Sustainability. Help moderate panels, facilitate during SLSD sessions, and develop content. 

  • Event Manager: Planning, coordinating, and overseeing sustainability-themed events, ranging from panel discussions to film screenings.  

  • Community Engagement: Actively engaging with students, staff, and the wider community to raise awareness and foster dialogue on sustainability issues. Engages with community to meet others that could work with the team in the future (i.e. guest speakers/workshops.) Raises awareness and fosters dialogue on sustainability issues. 

  • Projects: Initiate hands-on approaches to proposals that have been created. Bring ideas to life through focused activities/ initiatives. 

Details of time commitment needed for role:
We will have one team meeting in early December, if you cannot attend, you will meet with me. Minimum time commitment per week:
1 hour p/week
