Description

Location: Children Health Ireland @ Crumlin (please do not contact the hospital directly)

Children in Hospital Ireland are currently looking to expand their team of “JustAsk” volunteers, who provide a much-needed service of providing a friendly welcome and support for children and their families when they arrive at Children’s Health Ireland at Crumlin. 

Families travel from all over Ireland to attend Crumlin hospital with their sick children.  They can arrive exhausted from their long journey, stressed from trying to find parking, and worried about finding their way to their appointment.

On the back of this the JustAsk Hospital Help Desk in Crumlin was established, a Children in Hospital Ireland, volunteer-led service to help families find their way around the hospital.  The volunteers accompany families to their destination and also provide information and practical help such as where to find a coffee shop, baby changing facilities, or an ATM. The JustAsk volunteers also provide play activities for children waiting in the Outpatient department and A&E department.

This volunteer role will appeal to people who are energetic, pro-active, approachable, friendly enjoy engaging with children, can work as part of a team, and are comfortable in a busy, sensitive and diverse environment.

Responsibilities

  • Work as part of a team to provide support to families coming to the hospital
  • Be a pro-active and friendly presence in the busy areas of the hospital such as the Outpatient Department & Emergency Department
  • Escort families to their appointments
  • Engage and interact with children when giving out colouring packs and word
  • Provide information and practical help such as where to find a coffee shop, baby changing facilities or an ATM

Children in Hospital Ireland will provide

  • Full training for the role
  • Orientation in Crumlin Hospital
  • Ongoing support of the Volunteer Coordinator and the other JustAsk Volunteer team members
  • Further training and learning opportunities
  • A Welcome Pack including volunteer uniform

Commitment

  • All volunteers are asked to give 2 hours once a week for one year
  • Volunteering times will be 9am – 11am and the afternoon from 1.30pm – 3.30pm approximately, Monday to Friday 
  • Volunteers must complete the full training and application process before they can begin their volunteer placement
