We are recruiting enthusiasitic volunteers for our 4-week placement in Beira, Mozambique, which takes place from early July to early August.

SERVE volunteers come from a variety of backgrounds and disciplines. Applicants must be willing to get stuck-in, open to learning about new cultures and perspectives, and able to live and work with a diverse group of people. Online applications are open now. 

Please note that there is a volunteer fundraising target of €3,495, this target covers cost of accommodation, flights, food as well as a grant for the Global South partners you will be working with. Fundraising support is provided, but reaching the target is the responsibility of the individual volunteer.

Please note that Garda Vetting is required for this position which will be processed with you after you apply.

Tasks that the volunteer(s) will be expected to undertake:

  • On-site construction and renovation work.
  • Agriculture and horticulture work
  • Facilitating youth and community activities.
  • Immersion into life on the Young Africa campuses.
  • Unstructured engagement with Young Africa students and staff, through working side-by-side, playing sport or games, or through general conversation.
  • Global Citizenship Education.

Skills required for this role:

This placement is open to individuals with a variety of backgrounds and skills. Volunteers must be willing to get stuck in and happy to do some physical labour such as mixing cement, laying bricks, and digging foundations. A background in construction, engineering or horticulture is an advantage. Some basic Portuguese is also beneficial.

Details of time commitment needed for role:
3 Training Days. These take place on Saturdays in Cork - One in February, one in April, one in May/June. 4 week overseas placement in July / August 1 Next Step debriefing weekend in October. This is an important and mandatory component of the programme.

Minimum time commitment per week:
8 hour p/week
