We are recruiting enthusiastic volunteers for our 4-week placement in Hanoi, Vietnam, which takes place from early July to early August.

SERVE volunteers come from a variety of backgrounds and disciplines. Applicants must be willing to get stuck-in, open to learning about new cultures and perspectives, and able to live and work with a diverse group of people. Online applications open on the 14th October.

Please note that there is a volunteer fundraising target of €2,995. Fundraising support is provided, but reaching the target is the responsibility of the individual volunteer.

Please note that Garda Vetting is required for this position.

Tasks that the volunteer(s) will be expected to undertake:

  • Teaching interactive English classes.
  • Facilitating workshops for teenagers.
  • Immersion into life in Vietnam. 
  • Unstructured engagement with students and staff of CSDS, through working side-by-side, playing sport or games, or through general conversation.
  • Spending time with the host community. 
  • Development education.

Skills required for this role:

This placement is open to individuals with a variety of backgrounds and skills. Volunteers must be willing to get stuck in and enjoy working with children and teenagers. A background in teaching (specifically TEFL), creative arts or youth work is an advantage. Some basic Vietnamese is also beneficial.

Details of time commitment needed for role:
3 Training Days. These take place on Saturdays in Cork - One in February, one in April, one in May/June. 4 week overseas placement in July / August 1 Next Step debriefing weekend in October. This is an important and mandatory component of the programme.

Minimum time commitment per week:
8 hour p/week
