Description

The Mincéirs Misl'd in Education project aims to develop an Irish Traveller community embedded and culturally inclusive model that will empower the Travelling community to identify and overcome barriers to access, progression, retention, and success in higher education (HE).

Grinds4Mincéirs offers Junior Cycle, Leaving Certificate and Leaving Certificate Applied (LCA) students from the Irish Traveller community with additional support for exam subjects. The Traveller students are located in counties Galway, Mayo and Sligo with grinds delivered online.

Volunteers include third level students, student teachers, current teachers and those passionate about a particular subject. This is a great way to have an impact on the lives of Traveller youth, and gain teaching experience.

Grinds4Mincéirs is a support offered by NUI Galway’s Traveller Education Officer and the Mincéirs Misl'd in Education Project.

Please note that Garda Vetting is required for this position which will be processed with you after you apply.

Tasks that the volunteer(s) will be expected to undertake:

The volunteer will be expected to offer Leaving Certificate and Leaving Certificate Applied (LCA) students from the Irish Traveller community with additional support for exam subject as outlined. The Traveller students are located in counties Galway, Mayo and Sligo with grinds delivered online.

Skills required for this role:

The volunteer must have an understanding of the subject and of the educational needs of students from disadvantaged backgrounds. 

Details of time commitment needed for role:
Evenings and Saturday mornings.

Minimum time commitment per week:
1 hour p/week
