Foróige supports some 400 volunteer led youth groups around the country. Foróige works with all young people through our general services. Foróige Clubs, Foróige Juniors, Foróige Interest Clubs, Online Clubs, Foróige Youth Cafés encourage young people to take responsibility for themselves and to be part of shaping the world around them while developing their talents, skills and abilities.  

Foróige are hoping to increase further opportunities for the young people aged between 10-18 years in County Kerry by developing the number of Foróige clubs and special interest groups in the region. 

How we get you involved: 

Our intake process for volunteers includes a volunteer application form, references, an informal interview and garda vetting.

We will support you with training in basic youth work and child protection and a staff person that you can stay connected with. There is no charge for this training and support. 

If you get involved, you will be part of Foróige's team of nearly 5,000 volunteers. 

Is training provided?: Yes

Please note that Garda Vetting is required for this position which will be processed with you after you apply.

Tasks that the volunteer(s) will be expected to undertake:

  • Attend Foróige training called "Starting out in Foróige"where you will learn about how the club operates, Foróige's work and how to complete some of the tasks listed below. 
  • Plan monthly sessions with the other leaders in the Arts and Crafts club by working as a team. 
  • Involve the young people in decisions about the club, sharing authority and responsibility with them.
  • Identify the needs and interest of the club members and ensure the club programme of activities is relevant to them. 
  • Follow Foróige's policy and guidance including child protection and our code of good practice. 
  • Get to know the young people and act as a guide facilitator and mentor to them. 
  • Join in and have fun with the club. 
  • Manage the club administration using our online system which is required for permission forms, logging attendance. 

Skills required for this role:

  • Facilitation - the ability to get young people talking and engaging in club activities. 
  • Listening- to young people and other volunteers. 
  • Planning activities with young people
  • Time keeping
  • Ability to follow procedures and child protection guidelines
  • Communication - with other leaders, young people and staff

Details of time commitment needed for role:
The time commitment is 1.5 hours a week. The time commitment can be set by the team of leaders involved to suit their own availability and that of the young people. It is likely to be evening time during the week or anytime at the weekend.

Minimum time commitment per week:
2 hour p/week
