Are you someone with a passion for helping others?
Are you interested in being on a team that will be tackling the biggest issues relating to student welfare and wellbeing on our campus?
Do you want to be the change you want to see in the UL community?
Then you need to join the UL Student Life Welfare Team this semester!!!
The Welfare Team is a group headed me, Seán Ó Maoilchiaráin, your welfare officer that will be actively engaged in campaigning, running events and connecting with the student body around welfare-related issues this semester.
If you are someone who has a passion for advocating on mental, physical or sexual health or if you see welfare issues that you think need to be addressed, then you would be perfect for this team!!
Is training provided?: Yes
Tasks that the volunteer(s) will be expected to undertake:
The team will meet once every two weeks for an hour and this will be a space where we can share ideas and plan things like events and campaigns together. I can’t be everywhere around UL so I will also be relying on you guys to be my eyes and ears around our campus, letting me know how the students are feeling.
I want to be able to use the huge range of skills available on our campus so I will be asking members to be helping with different things like organising, communication, message-spreading etc.
Any time that you spend doing Welfare Team work will go towards your overall PVA hours and you will know that the work you are doing is making a huge difference to your fellow students and the campus community here as a whole.
Skills required for this role:
I need a team of people with a wide range of skills.
If you fit in to one or more of these categories or if you think you something else that you can offer to the team, make sure you apply!!!
Details of time commitment needed for role:
Bi-Weekly meetings (one hour) during term time with extra duties to be carried out during the college week (max 2 hours or 1 depending on meetings)
Minimum time commitment per week:
1 hour p/week
Additional screening required for this role:
If you have an interest in joining the Welfare Team then you need to send an application to StudentWelfare@UL.ie. This will not be a normal, boring, written application however… I would love if applicants could send a short video clip (no more than 1 minute) explaining who they are and why they think they would be a great fit for the welfare team this semester! I want to encourage people to get out of their comfort zone a bit here, it’s a great way to develop confidence and new skills!! If that REALLY is not your thing, you can just put all of that in an email to StudentWelfare@ul.ie. I will be looking to recruit 12 members to the team so not everyone will be able to be on the team but EVERY application will be fully considered.
