Requirements:Have a passion for fighting the climate crisis!
SAUTI-Youth is an initiative which aims to support youth led monitoring of local government commitments on climate action linking Galway and Tanga, Tanzania. Young people are provided with skills to monitor their local government’s climate action commitment and spending, and empowered to dialog with local authorities so that young people’s voice is taken into consideration while decisions about their future are made.
We do this through the Citizen Voice and Action (CVA) approach. CVA begins by building capacity among young people on climate policy before gathering to identify issues they hope to change. Young people then go out to gather data and assess progress on policy commitments before rating the progress of the local authority through score cards. This forms the basis for an interface meeting between young people and the local representatives, and developing an action plan to follow up on policy objectives. SAUTI-Youth work with a number of groups across Galway City and County, with youth leaders act as a focal point for each group and the environmental issues they aim to address in their local areas.
