Ballyhoura Development CLG manages and operates three Community Afterschool facilities for children of primary school age, in Caherconlish and Caherline in Co Limerick, and in Mitchelstown, Co Cork. Each of the services are committed to providing high quality and professional primary childhood care and education

Ballyhoura Development CLG  have opened a volunteering opportunity to support delivery of the Caherconlish afterschool service in Caherconlish,Co Limerick.

This opportunity would suit students of Sociology, Community Studies, Childcare, Psychology, Teacher/Primary School Education.

Volunteers will get first-hand experience of: facilitating homework sessions within an afterschool service. There is diverse range of children and parents who attend it and the aim is for all our staff to create a positive and secure environment for them.

All volunteers will be subject to Garda clearance prior to commencing in the role.

Please note that Garda Vetting is required for this position which will be processed with you after you apply.

Tasks that the volunteer(s) will be expected to undertake:

Volunteers to support the delivery of the Caherconlish afterschool service for children between 4-12years of age in conjunction with the manager and staff:

  • Implement school aged policies and procedures
  • Support the delivery of the Community Childcare Subvention programme & NCS scheme
  • supervision and care of children accessing the service
  • preparing and organising both educational, recreational and nutritional activities
  • supporting children during their homework sessions
  • facilitating recreational activities – arts, crafts, IT
  • Sporting activities

Skills required for this role:

Interest in:

  • Working with vulnerable families and children
  • Child wellbeing and nurturing positive behaviour
  • Art and/or sports
  • Nurture children’s learning and development in a holistic way.

Skills required:

  • Kind and caring
  • Display initiative and show creative skills
  • Ability to work as part of team
  • To be able to plan activities that are age appropriate
  • Patience and excellent communication skills
  • Ability to build relationships with families from diverse backgrounds
  • Some Experience with assisting in homework

Details of time commitment needed for role:
2.30pm to 5.30pm daily Monday to Friday during primary school term time.

Minimum time commitment per week:
10 hour p/week
