Description

Foróige's Mentoring Programme is a community-based initiative that connects adult volunteers with young people who are looking for friendship and support. As a mentor, you will be carefully matched with a young person from the Dublin Central area based on shared interests and personality. This role is about providing a consistent, supportive presence and being a reliable friend.

Once matched, you will hang out with your young person in the community or at one of our Foróige centres. Activities can be simple and fun, like going to parks, grabbing hot chocolates, playing football, or doing baking, arts, and crafts.

You don't need any prior experience in youth work—we provide all the necessary training and ongoing support from a professional Foróige staff member. This is a unique opportunity to gain new skills, enhance your CV, and become a part of a community dedicated to making a positive difference.

Is training provided?:Yes

Please note that Garda Vetting is required for this position which will be processed with you after you apply.

Tasks that the volunteer(s) will be expected to undertake:

  • Meet with your matched young person for 1-2 hours per week.

  • Engage in simple, enjoyable activities such as grabbing a coffee, playing sports, or going for a walk.

  • Act as a positive and reliable role model.

  • Maintain open and regular communication with your Foróige Programme Officer.

  • Attend initial training and ongoing support sessions.

Details of time commitment needed for role:
1-2 hours per week with your matched young person. A 1-year minimum commitment to ensure a stable and lasting relationship.
