Description

We are looking for Music Therapy Students who are interested in applying their knowledge and working with a class teacher and 6 children for 1 hour a week for 6 weeks. Our school day starts at 9am until 2.40pm daily so we students can choose an hour that suits them each week and an age range they might prefer to work with.

ST VINCENT'S SCHOOL caters for children between the ages of four and eighteen who have Moderate General Learning Disabilities, Severe & Profound General Learning Disabilities as well as Autistic Spectrum Disorder (A.S.D) with the above diagnoses. We have four pre-school classes for children with Autism from the age of three. We are situated over approx 2km from the school so students may require transport.

Is training provided?: No

Please note that Garda Vetting is required for this position.

Tasks that the volunteer(s) will be expected to undertake:

We require students to work with a class teacher to devise a programme appropriate to the class group. There is not set programme so the volunteers are free to explore ideas they may have with their assigned class teacher. 

Skills required for this role:

A love of music and children.

An understanding of Special Educational Needs

Details of time commitment needed for role:
One Hour per Week for 6 Weeks between the times of 9am-2.40pm Mon-Fri during School Term

Minimum time commitment per week:
1 hour p/week

Additional screening required for this role:
We ask all applicants to come and visit the school and meet with the principal initally. Then we will arrange for the volunteer to meet with a class teacher and explore ideas for a 6 week programme. All volunteers will have to complete Garda Vetting through the school
