As the eduction support worker for County Galway work for the WRDATF at Sexual Health West. (SHW).For the last few years we have been involved in initiatives to try and reduce harm in the city, especially those at risk from alcohol/drug use who may put themselves at risk around the river areas at night. One of theses initiatives is the Galway Safe app.

We are looking to promote the Galway Safe app. A major initiative with a range of partners. It seeks to use modern technology to advert tragedies occurring around our waterways in Galway.

Is training provided?: No

Tasks that the volunteer(s) will be expected to undertake:

Please link to the information on the Galway safe app at for an overview of the project.

With such a turnover of students every year we are very keen to utilise the power of social media, publicity and events to encourage the take up of this potentially life-saving app.

You will work with myself and others from the drug task force to put in place innovative schemes to publicise the app. How you wish to approach this will be largely in your hands. You may with to put on an event, use social media, make a film - the choice will be yours. Some funding will be available to make plans a reality.

For example a couple of years ago a five-a-side tournament was organised, sponsored by the WRDATF. People really got involved.
