Fantastic Interpreter Volunteers support our Crosscare information and advocacy staff to run migrant clinics with a focus on issues relating to housing, homelessness and social welfare.

We are looking for Somali speaking volunteers with fluent English to join our team!

Volunteers will be supported and supervised at all times so no prior interpreter experience or knowledge of housing, homelessness and social welfare services is required for the role. These are skills that you will learn from this really interesting role whilst supporting people in need!

Information Clinics: Thursdays 2-4pm Fortnightly

Commitment 1 session every 2-4 weeks or fixed term options available for summer

Is training provided?: Yes

Please note that Garda Vetting is required for this position.

Tasks that the volunteer(s) will be expected to undertake:

To provide a confidential interpreting service through Somali for clients who attend our clinics

To assist Information Officers in providing an information and advocacy service to clients who present to our clinics through Somali and English

To assist with translation of information leaflets and documents when required

To report any major issues with the service to your volunteer manager

Skills required for this role:

Fluent English and Somali

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Commitment to working with Crosscare's Migrant service client group

Details of time commitment needed for role:
Thursdays fortnightly 2-4pm Volunteer Commitment 1 session every 2-4 weeks or fixed term options available for summer

Minimum time commitment per week:
1 hour p/week

• Completed Application form • X2 Character References • Garda Vetting (Vulnerable adults & Children) • Informal interview
