Description

Pieta, the Centre for Prevention of Self-harm or Suicide will be holding it’s Darkness into Light charity 5km walk this year on May 11th 2024, and for the 15th time. TUS is hosting the event. Darkness into Light is a unique event, beginning at 4.15am, as thousands of people gather in the darkness at locations across Ireland and around the world to walk into the dawn.

We are expecting approximately 400 participants to take part in TUS  DIL 2024.

Following the success of Darkness into Light in Ireland and around the world in previous years, we are delighted to once again be in a position to host our Darkness into Light walk in our community here in TUS The symbolism of commencing in darkness and walking into the light gives the occasion its impact, bringing the community together to support those who have bereaved by suicide, who have self-harmed or who have experienced suicidal ideation. This event enables us to deliver a potent message of hope to all.

We are looking for students to voluneteer on the night of the walk as stewards.The role will involve interacting the the participants on the morning of the walk, handing out teas/coffees after, bucket/donations collecting, supervising the walk  and just ensuring the smooth running of the walk.

Is training provided?: Yes

Tasks that the volunteer(s) will be expected to undertake:

  • supervision of participants 
  • interacting with the general public, with directions and information along the walk route
  • collecting of vivtal charitable donations via bucket collection and card machines
  • handing out teas and coffees after the walk
  • facilitating and supporting this fundraiser by volunteering time

Details of time commitment needed for role:
Saturday May 11th 2024 between 3am-7am approx.

Minimum time commitment per week:
4 hour p/week
