Mature Student Office
Requirements:You must be a mature student registered on a full-time undergraduate course or on the Mature Student Access Certificate in UL.
The Mature Student Office (MSO) is looking for mature students to join a new team of Mature Student Ambassadors. Students themselves are best placed to tell their own story and to encourage and advise prospective and new mature students on what it is like to return to learning in third-level.
Our only requirement is that you are a mature student who is studying on a full-time undergraduate course in UL, and that you are willing to help promote opportunities for mature students in UL in an enthusiastic, positive way. We’re looking for students from 1st to 4th year, as well as students on the Mature Student Access Certificate.
The roles for Mature Student Ambassadors are varied and occasional. Ambassadors may be called upon to help out with such things as:
Supporting the MSO at UL events such as Open Days, or events in the community, talking positively to prospective students about your life in UL.
Taking part in photo shoots and promotional videos about UL and appear in the MSO’s promotional material talking about what it’s like to study in UL (mature student profiles).
Emailing a prospective mature student to advise them what your particular course is like.
Showing small groups of adult learners from the community around the campus
Speaking about your life and journey as a mature student at MSO events on campus (e.g. visiting adult learner groups, MSO information sessions, Adult Learner Festival events etc)
Helping out at the Mature Student Welcome Programme and the Mature Student Access Certificate Orientation – speaking with incoming mature students and showing them around the campus.
Informally mentoring new first mature students
What will you get out of this experience?
- Get to work directly with the staff in the MSO.
- Develop your communication skills.
- Meet others and have fun.
All hours volunteered count towards the UL President's Volunteer Award.

Tasks that the volunteer(s) will be expected to undertake:
No training required.
Skills required for this role:
An enthusiasm for meeting with prospective or current students and sharing your experience.
Details of time commitment needed for role:
There are no set hours for this opportunity, you can contribute as much as you are able, so the role will not interfere with your University work.
Minimum time commitment per week:
1 hour p/week
