ABOUT GOSHH
GOSHH – Gender Orientation Sexual Health HIV is a voluntary, non-profit organisation which provides care and prevention services relating to LGBT, HIV/AIDS, Sexually Transmitted Infections, and Sexual Health issues to people in the Mid-West of Ireland. We strive to ensure that people have access to local services which match and exceed those available in the rest of the country. We provide a safe, confidential, welcoming environment for everyone we work with.
Our office is based in Limerick City and we work throughout the Counties of Limerick, Clare, and North Tipperary. We focus on the promotion of equality and wellbeing of all with a positive and respectful approach to sexual orientation and gender diversity. 

 

PURPOSE
Assist GOSHH by providing community based peer Rapid HIV testing targeted at men who have sex with men. In particular we are recruiting men who have sex with men from every type of community.

 

DUTIES

Provide rapid HIV tests in a variety of settings
Administrate the rapid HIV testing sessions (answer phone, manage waiting lists, etc)
Ensure paperwork is completed before, during and after the rapid HIV tests
Ensure a safe environment is created and maintained for the rapid HIV testing sessions
Provide testing support for testing team members during rapid HIV testing sessions.
Active listening and unconditional positive regard
Maintain confidentiality at all times
Promote the rapid HIV testing programme
Ensure statistical data is accurate and handed over to GOSHH staff
Collect practice based evidence
Work as part of a team
Engage in supervision as agreed with the volunteer coordinator
Adhere to safety protocols, policies and procedures
Influence policy and strategy of rapid HIV testing programme development

 

WHERE

Group work will be based in GOSHH, Redwood Place, 18 Davis Street, Limerick, V94 K377.
Rapid HIV testing might also be organised for other venues

WHEN

One evening every two weeks initially.
Other times as necessary (possibly evenings or weekends)
Monthly or 6 weekly supervision

 

DURATION

Minimum 6 month commitment.

 

REQUIRED SKILLS OR QUALIFICATIONS

An interest in the areas of Gender, Orientation, Sexual Health and HIV.
Strong social and interpersonal skills.
Good communication skills.
A willingness to learn.
Ability to be non-judgemental and maintain confidentiality.

Peer work is most effective form of health promotion and community development because peers are people who understand the cultural and social context that is the environmental setting for the work we do.  We need peers to enhance our understanding of the best ways to work and the best ways to target a specific group.

Not only will you enhance the work we do but your knowledge will be an extra resource to the team.

As part of our application process you will be asked to Complete a Garda Vetting form which will be processed by The Garda Central Vetting Bureau in accordance with the Garda Vetting Act 2012 & 2016.
Provide details of two people who can supply a character reference on your behalf.

• One evening every two weeks initially. • Other times as necessary (possibly evenings or weekends) • Monthly or 6 weekly supervision

Minimum time commitment per week:
4 hour p/week
