About Us:Aphasia Ireland was formed with the sole aim of creating awareness and providing support for people with aphasia and their families.




Description

Aphasia Ireland is looking for Clinical Team Assistants who will play a key role in providing support to those with Aphasia and their families across Ireland.

This is a remote volunteering opportunity that can be carried out from anywhere within the Republic of Ireland.

About Aphasia Ireland 

Aphasia is the term for language problems caused by brain damage, such as stroke or traumatic brain injury. Aphasia can make it difficult for people to express their thoughts in words or to understand what others are saying.

Aphasia Ireland is a registered charity formed with the sole aim of creating awareness and providing support for people with aphasia and those around them. The charity has been set up to do so in the following ways:

  • To create awareness of what aphasia is
  • To establish a nationwide network of Support Groups, from which both those living with aphasia and their supporters can benefit
  • To keep abreast of the latest developments in management and treatment of Aphasia and share this information with our clients


Responsibilities and tasks

  • Provide all-around support for people with aphasia (through email & online meetings)
  • Assist with our Voices of Aphasia conversation group & Friends of Aphasia Newsletters
  • Other responsibilities may include: advocacy work, creating resources, identifying community  supports, and signposting


What's required

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong IT skills
  • Experience dealing with people with communication and language disorders
  • Studying towards a degree in:
    • Speech and Language Therapy (SLT)
    • Linguistics
    • Psychology

Tasks that the volunteer(s) will be expected to undertake:

rewarding volunteer role that will strengthen their CV.

Details of time commitment needed for role:
We ask all volunteers to commit a minimum of 3 hours weekly.

Minimum time commitment per week:
3 hours p/week
