Requirements:Must be an Access Student in DIT with at least 1 years experience of Study in DIT


Requirements of Participants:

Participate in all leadership building activities, workshops, and social events during the 2018-19 academic year.  As there is a time commitment, students entering their final year, or students sitting repeat exams in August/September should bear this in mind when applying.
Keep in contact with Access Staff and reply to any emails/facebook messages you receive from the Access Office throughout the year.


ORIENTATION Programme 2018– Duties will include:

  • Assisting the Access Orientation Programme Student Co-ordinator and ACE staff and follow any instructions
  • Staying in regular communication with OP Student Coordinator over the summer period and contribute to your summer planning group (planning groups will be assigned at May 23rd Training Day.)
  • Preparing a short introductory speech to be delivered on the first day of the Orientation Programme.
  • Providing guidance and leadership to first year students
  • Ensuring all 1st years in your peer mentor group are present and accounted for each day of Orientation Programme.
  • Contributing to the tight-knit group dynamic of the Leadership Launchpad by promoting an inclusive atmosphere amongst students
  • Supervising students during activities/meal times/sports/field trips/travel time
  • Notifying the Access Staff of missing/late students



Student Leaders will be expected to serve as a Peer Mentor for a small group of 1st year students during the 2018-19 academic year.  This will entail:

  • Holding at least two Peer Mentor meetings after the Access Orientation with your group in October 2018 and February 2019
  • Keeping in contact with students throughout the year
  • Encouraging 1st year students to attend meetings with their Student Support Officer
  • Attending all access service social events and encouraging 1st years to attend.

23 May 2018 - Induction and Training Day 

Summer 2018 - Planning and Organising Student Projects 

23/24th August 2018 - Overnight Planning and Training day in Preparation for Orientation Programme

27/-30th August 2018 - Orientation Week 2018

October 2018 - Term-time Peer Mentoring meeting with your 1st years 

November 2018 - Meet with Access Staff to Reflect on Mentoring Role 

November 2018 - Skills based training session - Organised by Student Co-ordinators

December 2018 - Christmas Event with Mentees 

January 2019 - Leadership Building Q&A with a Political/Business Leader 

February 2019 - Term-time Peer Mentoring Meeting with 1st years.

February 2019 - Meet with Access Staff to Reflect on Mentoring Role 

March 2019 - Skills based training session - Organised by Student Co-ordinators

April 2019 - Attend the Access office Annual Volunteering Awards Ceremony

The commitment listed here totals to 75 Contact hours of Volunteering and 25 Hours of Independent work and reflection. Student leaders will have completed 100 hours of Volunteering after completing the Access Programme Leadership role 2018/19

Minimum time commitment per week:
1 hour p/week
