Requirements:Interest in animal welfare!
The Dublin Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (DPSCA) is a registered charity, established in 1840, to prevent cruelty to animals and is now Ireland’s largest animal welfare organisation. Located at Mount Venus Road, Rathfarnham, Dublin 16, they are close neighbours of UCD. UCD in the Community are delighted to partner with the DSPCA on this volunteering opportunity.
The DSPCA have a state of the art shelter, opened in 2003, in which they shelter and care to a wide variety of animals including dogs, cats, horses, donkeys, goats, cows, pigs, rabbits, ferrets, gerbils, budgies, snakes, terrapins and all manner of farmyard fowl. The rescue and re-homing centre is also a rest stop for a number of injured and young wildlife awaiting release including swans, foxes, badgers, hedgehogs and small birds.
The DSPCA are looking for interested students to volunteer at their shelter in Rathfarnham, which would include assisting with tours of the facility.
The aim is to give interested students first-hand experience within the DPSCA, with the eventual goal of having these students deliver presentations on the DSPCA and animal welfare in various schools, colleges, creches and youth groups around the country, to a wide range of age/ability groups.
