Description

Brothers of Charity Services Ireland provide quality services to meet the needs of over 1,000 people with intellectual disabilities throughout Galway city and county.  We support people to be active in their local community, to make choices about their lives and to have ordinary life experiences.

Volunteering is an important role within these services. Our volunteering programme is called Connect.  Connect volunteers enrich the lives of the people we support by bringing friendship and fun into their lives.  

That’s Life is an award-winning arts and personal development programme of the Brothers of Charity Services, Galway.  Throughout the year, That's Life run various activities such as music events, craft workshops and exhibitions, choir rehearsals and performances, drama rehearsals and performances.  At times, volunteers support these activities and assist in the smooth running of the activities and support those attending to participate and to have an enjoyable time. 

Skills or qualities required for the role:

We are looking for people who are motivated and responsible, with good communication skills and are willing to become part of our creative experience.

Fluent English

Patience, good humoured, reliable, good time keeper

We ask for a minimum commitment of  6 months

Tasks that the volunteer(s) will be expected to undertake:

Meet the That’s Life team at the venue and

  • Assist in the set up of the workshop/rehearsal/performance
  • Provide support to the adults with intellectual disabilities participating in activities
  • Assist in wayfinding

Details of time commitment needed for role:
We ask for a minimum commitment of 6 months. Specific time commitment will vary depending on activity. Different volunteering opportunities arise throughout the year at various times. Volunteer will be matched with activity that suits their schedule.
