International Volunteer Opportunity: Education Project with the Badjao Community, Cebu
SERVE is a development and volunteer-sending organisation based in Cork. Each summer, we run volunteer programmes where participants have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the Badjao community in Cebu, Philippines — to help, learn, and grow alongside one of the most marginalised groups in the region.
On placement, volunteers will work in partnership with the Nano Nagle Learning Centre to support the Badjao community, a nomadic, seafaring tribe. Volunteers will deliver and assist with learning programmes for young people aged 4–25, covering topics such as art, music, English, environmental care, sexual health, hygiene, and more. You’ll help create engaging, inclusive learning experiences that build confidence, connection, and opportunity.
This programme is open to anyone 18+ and out of secondary education, with an open heart, open mind, and a genuine interest in helping others. A background in education, youth work, social work, psychology, or related fields is beneficial, but not required — what matters most is empathy, energy, and the ability to connect with people.
The SERVE volunteer experience is an opportunity to give back, support a great cause, and grow both personally and professionally. Volunteers will take part in pre-departure workshops and a post-placement reflection to ensure a meaningful, well-supported experience.
The overseas placement runs for 4 weeks in-country.
Ready to teach, learn, and be inspired? Join SERVE this summer and help empower young people in the Badjao community to build brighter futures.
