Requirements:An interest in working with children and young people in a creative environment and good listening skills
Are you interested in helping children and young people to tell their stories in a fun and creative environment?
Fighting Words volunteers act as mentors and facilitate the creativity of the children and young people who attend our programmes.
Fighting Words mentors offer help and advice to primary and secondary school students as they write – their time and attention is a huge resource. They are the voice of encouragement as students hone their skills at telling stories. All our workshops are run by teams of volunteer mentors, managed by our local location coordinators, with a variety of roles within each session to help us deliver a fun, engaging and creative experience for all participants.
We have opportunities at our centres in Dublin city centre, Bray, Galway, Cork and Limerick!
No previous experience in teaching or writing is required and training is provided.
There is no minimum time commitment – Fighting Words volunteer mentors sign up for as many workshops as suit their schedules using our online calendar.

Please note that Garda Vetting is required for this position which will be processed with you after you apply.
Tasks that the volunteer(s) will be expected to undertake:
Assisting children and/or young with the practical and creative aspects of creative writing
Offering advice and encouragement and positive feedback in general
Setting up the workshop space
Skills required for this role:
An interest in working with children and young people in a creative environment
Good listening skills
Working as part of a team
Details of time commitment needed for role:
Weekday mornings and afternoons and occasional weekend opportunities.
Volunteering is completely flexible - volunteers choose the days and times they come in using our online calendar. Volunteering with us can fit around your study and exam schedule!
There is no minimum commitment but we do require attendance at one workshop per term.
Minimum time commitment per week:
3 hour p/week
Additional screening required for this role:
All prospective volunteers are required to complete the Fighting Words volunteer application form, attend an informal interview and complete a two-hour training session.
Garda vetting is mandatory - but don't worry - we will explain the process and provide the forms!
