A volunteer is needed to support a young man to access the community, try out new activities and to make choices regarding social activities/interests.
The volunteer needs to be patient and encouraging with an outgoing personality and needs to be able to allow individuals to make their own choices. This role will be community based in Glasheen/Togher/Cork city depending on activities engaged in.
This man has some difficulty with expressing preferences and can also be a bit shy and anxious in new situations. He has asked for a volunteer who is male between the ages of 25 and 50 as he feels he will relate best to someone in that age range.
The ideal time would be on Monday from 11 to 1 p.m. or Friday 2 to 5 p.m. as he attends a day service on other weekdays.
The volunteer will gain experience of person centred practice, an understanding of communication difficulties and will develop a friendship with a person in the community. This role would suit a Psychology, Social work/Social Care student looking to gain some relevant experience.
