Energetic Food Schools Science Workshop

Requirements:Applicants should be third level students, preferably studying science or health science or related degree.
This is an opportunity for student volunteers who would be interested in getting involved with a science workshop for Primary School children. The workshop is called 'Energetic Food' and it is provided by staff of the Discipline of Physiology, NUI Galway. The aim is to give primary school children the opportunity to have fun with hands-on experiments and to learn some science in the process. They will perform experiments that will teach them about how food can provide energy to fuel the body, and how the body works to break down food to get this energy.
We will be providing the workshops both on-campus and in schools during science week (fortnight), which runs from Nov 13th to Nov 24th.
Is training provided?: Yes
Please note that Garda Vetting is required for this position.
Tasks that the volunteer(s) will be expected to undertake:
As a volunteer you would be expected to support the main instructor. You would be required to interact with the children and help them with the experiments. You would also be expected to generally help to ensure the smooth running of the workshop. This would include helping to set out the experiments, tidying up after etc.
Skills required for this role:
Volunteers should have an interest in promoting science. It would be an advantage if they are currently studying Physiology or other science subjects.
Details of time commitment needed for role:
Volunteers will be required for weekdays from Nov 13th to 24th. Students can volunteer for just one workshop or more. The minimum time required is 3 hours. Commitments such as lectures etc will be accommodated.

3 hour p/week
