Requirements:Good level of spoken english or Irish Sign Language essential, full clean drivers licence desirable


We are looking to recruit enthusiastic and energetic Outreach Volunteers to provide support to people who are deafblind for up to 4 hours a week. No previous experience is necessary but any experience working with the elderly or people with sensory disabilities would be valuable. Full support and  induction will be provided in the areas of deafblind awareness, communication and mobility and orientation.

Is training provided?: Yes

Please note that Garda Vetting is required for this position.

Tasks that the volunteer(s) will be expected to undertake:

The volunteer outreach worker can provide support to people who are deafblind by visiting, assisting with activities that require reading or writing. They can also act as a sighted guide to support community access and interactions 

Skills required for this role:

Be over 18 years of age

Be enthusiastic and motivated to support people with disabilities gain more independence

Have a patient and empathic personality

Have an ability to relate well to people

Have an interest in learning some Sign language or other Augmentative communication methods

Details of time commitment needed for role:
This is a pilot project and we expect that availability of between 2 and 4 hours per week would be desirable. We can be flexible around the volunteers availability.

Minimum time commitment per week:
2 hour p/week
